How to catch Catfish on the Rock River?

I feel like going catfishing in the Rock River. I live in Sterling, and rarely catfish, i mostly bass fish. I don't have a boat, and I was thinking about going to the Upper Dam Walking Bridge. Does anyone know what bait to use that dosn't take any time to prepare? like shrimp maybe? and should I use a trble, or a regular hook? Thanks.
