I have shortness of breath and upper back pain along the spine?

For the past 3 weeks I been feeling shortness of breath here and there and it would get worse at night. At times Its difficult to swallow and I have sharp shooting pain on my upper back. I am not sure if the pain in my back is associated with the shortness of breath. I went to the doctors and all they told me was I have really bad allergies and asthma and they gave me oral medication Singular and an inhale, which really don't help. I have to sleep upright at time just to feel better. What else could trigger this? I do exercise regularly and try to have a good posture. I don't smoke. It gets so uncomfortable at times.
